Okay, in celebration of nothing in particular, we will be diverting our normal Games Night to Sushi Night! Yes, we will be playing such amazing games as "what is that", "are you sure that is fish", "how much sake comes in one of the big bottles", and "I can't believe I ate so much"!

We'll start at the standard place (Sapporo), but we are going to monkey a bit with the time (7:45pm). Why? Because it's a Friday, and they've gone under new management, so we don't know how good they are anymore. If they're busy we can wait a bit to get a good table, or we can go somewhere else. If you are going to come, let us know and we'll save you a seat! So, the procedure? Meet at our house by 7:30, or there at some point, and let's eat!

Sapporo is at 910 Marietta Hwy, Roswell GA 30075. They serve sushi/sashimi, soup, teppanyaki/hibachi, tempura, and I'm sure a few other things I don't remember.

Google Maps -- get directions from here!.

Will you join us? Comment and let me know!

Reminder -- tonight is sushi night! 7:00 at the usual place!

Okay, in celebration of escaping September, we will be diverting our normal Games Night to Sushi Night! Yes, we will be playing such amazing games as "what is that", "are you sure that is fish", "how much sake comes in one of the big bottles", and "I can't believe I ate so much"!

I think we'll do the standard place (Sapporo), but we are going to monkey a bit with the time (7:00pm). Why? Because it's a Friday, and this place is known for good food. We want to get a good table, so we'll show up early. If you can't be there early, but are going to come, let us know and we'll save you a seat! So, the procedure? Meet at our house by 6:50, or there at some point, and let's eat!

Meet at Tir Na n'Fir (house of Dwiv and Elf) at 7pm. We'll proceed to the restaurant of choice from there. We may just go to our usual place, or pick someplace new. Depends on how people are, I guess, and how many show up. Let me know if you think you'll be there!

Okay... so, no games night this week. In its place we are going to sushi night!

Thus -- Wednesday, 7:30, at Sapporo on Roswell Road. Comment if you think you'll be with us!
dwivian: (mukluk)
YAY for Sushi tonight!!! Time frame is 7:00 to 7:30 to start!

We're going to Sushi Mito, which is the new name of one my of my old haunts, Sushi Yoshi, after an owner change. I'm hoping the food is just as good as it used to be, but if it isn't, I have no problems with picking everyone up and going someplace we know! It makes for a good starting place, at least.

If you are driving, you might like to see the Map here, or you can just remember it's located on Spaulding just south of Holcomb Bridge Road. The "A" on the map is wrong -- it's really in the shopping center just south of that. I think the "A" is on our pediatricians office, in fact. Not known for good sushi, but he really does well-care visits nicely.

Anyway -- dinner tonight! Grab some cash! We picked a place near to Frolicon so we could go get people that may be coming. And, I have a date (right, [livejournal.com profile] relevantpink?) too! Lots of fun, fish, and ...er... rice!

Sushi?

Da elf and I have been talking about getting sushi, but next Friday is Good Friday, middle of Frolicon, and others might be busy....

....but, if not, is anyone willing to be cajoled into going and getting fish?

21March, at a new place if there is sufficient interest....
dwivian: (mukluk)
Okay.... da elf and I have decided that this Friday (22nd!) is the next Sushi Friday!

I think we'll do the same place (Sapporo), and same time (7:30pm). Meet at our house, or there, and let's eat!

Sapporo is at 910 Marietta Hwy, Roswell GA 30075. They serve sushi/sashimi, soup, teppanyaki/hibachi, tempura, and I'm sure a few other things I don't remember.

Games....

Games night was cool.... new game, "Mad Scientist University" (got it at Dragon*Con a year or two ago but we'd never gotten it out) was really fun. Remember, it doesn't rain in space! And, I'd like to credit [livejournal.com profile] captain_drew with the inspiration for building a cardboard Death Star. Even so, I didn't win, which makes the game even more fun, as it means other people did well, too.

Tomorrow is Sushi Night (a once-a-month occurance). Yeah, I know, you're supposed to be watching friday night programming, but set your TiVo and come out! It's not like WE will spoil you, since we're not watching the shows, either! Look for the sushi tag to get locations, directions, etc. Good chef, good food, and you get to have dinner with me! Can't beat that, right?
dwivian: (mukluk)
Sushi Fridays will resume a week from today! Well, Sushi Once-a-month-on-friday, because that way we can save up for a nice meal!

We'll be going to our regular place (Sapporo) at 910 Marietta Hwy, Roswell GA 30075. They serve sushi/sashimi, soup, teppanyaki/hibachi, tempura, and I'm sure a few other things I don't remember.

Will you be joining us? Comment to let us know, so we can get the right sized table! (and, if I post this again, as I probably will, comment there too!)

Google Maps -- get directions from here!.

We'll be aiming these for a day near the middle of the month, so plan to share your Valentine's day with us next month!

sushi!

So....

I decided to make Inari, and got some fried tofu, planned to make sushi rice, and had a goal.

While I was at Harry's, I talked to the fishmonger about sushi-grade tuna, and they told me that they got in fresh fish daily and only a few were ever sushi grade. But, the end cuts of the main muscle mass were perfect. Alas, they didn't have any. And, at $30 a pound....

While we were talking, a cutter got out a large slab of tuna to replentish their tuna steak section. He miscut the last steak, leaving trailing bits. Those good sushi bits. They weren't cut well, but weren't cut into a steak.

The fishmonger offered to sell them to me, and since that was what I needed to make tuna nigiri (maguro), I agreed.

Half a pound of soft nice tuna. Oh, sure, I'd have to work to cut it into pretty pieces, but it was still a half pound of premium tuna!

Marked as "Fish Chunks". For $2 a pound.

Yeah, I made 16 pieces of tuna nigiri, plus 5 pieces of sashimi, for $1. For $4 worth of inarizushi no mono, I made another 12 pieces of inari.

So, for $8 total, I had 28 pieces of sushi. Da elf and I ate a bit, and the left over bits are packed in a bento for later.
dwivian: (Must Avenge The Butt)
So.... root canal, followed by core prep, followed by rebuild and bridge prep, followed by a raping of my wallet.

$4500.

And, no "firm" food for two weeks.

So, da elf and I went out for sushi tonight! Our old place, Sapporo, has hired a chef on par with our last one, and FINALLY we start to see good food and style. He's a fan of nigiri and sashimi, and won't buy any frozen fish, nor serve anything that isn't on the bleeding edge of fresh. And, it shows..... wow.

We'll be resuming sushi nights there shortly. We've normally done Thursday, but he does his big fish run on Friday, and will pick up Uni and other nice things if there is an interest. Will you start joining us?

Sushi Nami is the start of our crawl, at 5:00pm. If you come out, you'll see me in a black kilt and black shirt (with 'dwivian' on the chest!)! Check out [livejournal.com profile] sushi_crawl for specific directions, and agenda. Time to head out for food!

Firfey is studying Japan at school, and her teacher asked us to make some pretend sushi. So, here's what I sent.
candy sushi
Yes, fruit rollups, rice krispy mix, and gummi worms make for an interesting snack! But, If you invert the roll, add some vanilla pudding and Harry and David candy, then coat in orange sugar, you've got something extra. And, if you can make good creamy jello jigglers, it can be even more fun. Try our new Diabetes Roll! Now with more insulin!

lunch

dwivian: (Key Lime Pie)
Da elf and I had lunch at Ege Sushi, which is on Roswell Road near the 120 loop (in the Kroger shopping center at East Lake). Very nice food, and good prices. The chef cuts tuna in the Kyushu style (single stroke, drawn, tight angle) more than the Tokyo style (single stroke, forward, moderate angle), which I find gives better texture and more flavor as the meat fibers are very short, and thus fall apart easier.

For those that care, the chef was Japanese, and was making sushi like from home. Well worth a quick trip, if you've never been.
dwivian: (Dwiv Inside)
Come do the sushi crawl! Starting at 5:00pm and going until we are full of food, friendship, and some other f word.

Route: Jinbei -> Hashiguchi, Genki, or someplace else on the way -> MF Sushi

Starting Location: One mile north of Cumberland Mall on Cobb Parkway in the Cumberland Square North shopping plaza across from Best Buy (the shopping center is behind the Olive Garden restaurant). Exit 75 or 285 and get on Cobb Parkway right at the intersection in the north-west, or take I-75 north one exit to Windy Hill, go West, then south on Cobb Parkway. When you're coming up a big hill, the shopping center will appear on the left, and there is a traffic light you can use to get into the parking lot.

General Location from Google Maps

If you want a pickup from the Marta Rail, let us know -- we'll be glad to swing by on our way to the restaurant, and deliver you back to a rail station on the way out from MF Sushi. We're good like that. If a lot of you are coming, we'll plan to meet you on the North line one stop north of Perimeter mall (N10, Sandy Springs) about 4:00-4:15.

So far, nobody has asked for a rail pickup. Just sayin'....

[Poll #909854]

Da elf and I will be driving our minivan so we can carry a few people without trouble. No need to bring all the cars, and we'll come back up to Jinbei afterwards to get anyone back to a vehicle they've left behind. No worries!
