No, it isn't IS... that's one of my problems, since I have tremor in my right side, and so I am forced to use this one almost exclusively on a tripod. It is a standard USM, though, and it's fast on the focus. Light is good, and with her new camera it'll crop out to 110-320mm effective. That's really nice for sporting events, as I discovered at the UGA/SC game (check my Flickr stream).
