It's been a little bit, and I'm sorry not to have been on to update people.
I got on home from work on Thursday after we had a bit of a hiccup with our disk array. When I left people were madly scrambing to make it shift to the backup controller. As this isn't horribly difficult I felt fine about going home.
At home they called me at 1:30am and asked if I could VPN to the office and help out. Well, we found out that my internal networking scheme is the same as this office, so attempts to cross that VPN were being shunted to the internal router, and not to the company network. Ugh. So, this week I'll be rebuilding my network at home. Joy.
So, I got up Friday morning planning to get the kids to school, then drive down or MARTA down to see
avivasedai on her way through the Atlanta airport. On the ride down on the train, I get....a call from work. So, I go down, spend maybe 30 minutes on the couch with
avivasedai, then send her back to her plane and ride back up so that I would work until the kids got out of daycare (and my van got out of the shop). Things were still mangled here, so I got my ride, got my kids, packed them up for our weekend trip to the Grands, and took them to.... work.
Yes, we sat here for a few MORE hours, the kids playing in the breakroom, until things settled down again. Then, in the deep of night, I drove up to the mountains. My plan was to drive down immediately to Athens to visit
uga_bug_girl and
ga_sunshine for crash space ahead of the UGA/UofA game, but I slept in and drove down the next morning from my parents.
The pre-game festivities were fun, I'm told, but I instead ran off to hear the band rehearse, and then caught up with a very cool guy who was giving me the extra ticket (club level halftime snacks, private entrance, etc) so we could tour a new building on campus, have a reception, then go to the game. Lots of fun, and I hoped the entire time not to be called back to work. I got lucky, it would seem.
Game over, listened to post game concert with
operatic, then got in the wrong elevator to get to the exits (my knee was hurting, and I didn't want to take stairs). I got off, and was ushered down to the locker area (I was wearing a purplish shirt and black vest, so I guess I was a Bama person right then). When someone finally questioned me about who I was, I told them my last name and they accepted that all was well. For those that don't know, a prominent Bama person and I share names, so they apparently assumed I was with him. I don't mind, since I was trying to find my way out and didn't want to do so in manacles.
I did find a box of Bama shakers, got one for
uga_bug_girl, and made my way back to the post-game festivities, where we talked, listened to the end of the Braves game, and finally drove out after the worst of the crowd had departed. I went back up to the Grands, rested, then got up today to bring everyone back down home. And, now, on Syd-Monday, I'm at work again. Kinda quiet. I guess everyone got tired, burned out, or is off carousing now that they've finished the worst of it all.
So, that was the weekend. Not too bad, actually. I just need another Guinness.
Oh, and I did watch the end of the Auburn/Florida game. You know, for games like that, I'm rooting for the asteroid that will wipe out the stadium, but I can say that I appreciated the outcome, without all the carnage I'd imagined.
