Reminder -- tonight is sushi night! 7:00 at the usual place!

Meet at Tir Na n'Fir (house of Dwiv and Elf) at 7pm. We'll proceed to the restaurant of choice from there. We may just go to our usual place, or pick someplace new. Depends on how people are, I guess, and how many show up. Let me know if you think you'll be there!

Okay... so, no games night this week. In its place we are going to sushi night!

Da elf and I have been talking about getting sushi, but next Friday is Good Friday, middle of Frolicon, and others might be busy....

....but, if not, is anyone willing to be cajoled into going and getting fish?

I am full of fish. Sushi was nummy. We must do this again, after my bank account recovers.

Games night was cool.... new game, "Mad Scientist University" (got it at Dragon*Con a year or two ago but we'd never gotten it out) was really fun. Remember, it doesn't rain in space! And, I'd like to credit captain_drew with the inspiration for building a cardboard Death Star. Even so, I didn't win, which makes the game even more fun, as it means other people did well, too.

Tomorrow is Sushi Night (a once-a-month occurance). Yeah, I know, you're supposed to be watching friday night programming, but set your TiVo and come out! It's not like WE will spoil you, since we're not watching the shows, either! Look for the sushi tag to get locations, directions, etc. Good chef, good food, and you get to have dinner with me! Can't beat that, right?

So....

I decided to make Inari, and got some fried tofu, planned to make sushi rice, and had a goal.

While I was at Harry's, I talked to the fishmonger about sushi-grade tuna, and they told me that they got in fresh fish daily and only a few were ever sushi grade. But, the end cuts of the main muscle mass were perfect. Alas, they didn't have any. And, at $30 a pound....

While we were talking, a cutter got out a large slab of tuna to replentish their tuna steak section. He miscut the last steak, leaving trailing bits. Those good sushi bits. They weren't cut well, but weren't cut into a steak.

The fishmonger offered to sell them to me, and since that was what I needed to make tuna nigiri (maguro), I agreed.

Half a pound of soft nice tuna. Oh, sure, I'd have to work to cut it into pretty pieces, but it was still a half pound of premium tuna!

Marked as "Fish Chunks". For $2 a pound.

Yeah, I made 16 pieces of tuna nigiri, plus 5 pieces of sashimi, for $1. For $4 worth of inarizushi no mono, I made another 12 pieces of inari.

So, for $8 total, I had 28 pieces of sushi. Da elf and I ate a bit, and the left over bits are packed in a bento for later.

Sushi Nami is the start of our crawl, at 5:00pm. If you come out, you'll see me in a black kilt and black shirt (with 'dwivian' on the chest!)! Check out sushi_crawl for specific directions, and agenda. Time to head out for food!

Firfey is studying Japan at school, and her teacher asked us to make some pretend sushi. So, here's what I sent. Yes, fruit rollups, rice krispy mix, and gummi worms make for an interesting snack! But, If you invert the roll, add some vanilla pudding and Harry and David candy, then coat in orange sugar, you've got something extra. And, if you can make good creamy jello jigglers, it can be even more fun. Try our new Diabetes Roll! Now with more insulin!

Come do the sushi crawl! Starting at 5:00pm and going until we are full of food, friendship, and some other f word.

Route: Jinbei -> Hashiguchi, Genki, or someplace else on the way -> MF Sushi

Starting Location: One mile north of Cumberland Mall on Cobb Parkway in the Cumberland Square North shopping plaza across from Best Buy (the shopping center is behind the Olive Garden restaurant). Exit 75 or 285 and get on Cobb Parkway right at the intersection in the north-west, or take I-75 north one exit to Windy Hill, go West, then south on Cobb Parkway. When you're coming up a big hill, the shopping center will appear on the left, and there is a traffic light you can use to get into the parking lot.

If you want a pickup from the Marta Rail, let us know -- we'll be glad to swing by on our way to the restaurant, and deliver you back to a rail station on the way out from MF Sushi. We're good like that. If a lot of you are coming, we'll plan to meet you on the North line one stop north of Perimeter mall (N10, Sandy Springs) about 4:00-4:15.

So far, nobody has asked for a rail pickup. Just sayin'....

Da elf and I will be driving our minivan so we can carry a few people without trouble. No need to bring all the cars, and we'll come back up to Jinbei afterwards to get anyone back to a vehicle they've left behind. No worries!
