Third time's the charm...
Feb. 28th, 2004 07:01 pmAfter listening to the sage advice of my friends, I ran away. I grabbed
elfgirl half-work-day on Friday, threw grandchildren in all directions, and headed north. Our entire objective was to be "not here."
Elfgirl left my computer behind.
I mention this point because I was informed by parental counsel that I am required to mention this fact repeatedly over the entire weekend. It's been tough at times, but I've managed to bring it up in even inane opportunities. I hope I am doing well.
After a turnback that involved meeting my family in a parking lot halfway home, we returned to our outward trek, and da elf suggested...
Harrah's Casino and Hotel in Cherokee North Carolina.
Cool! So, we went to the hotel, and found them booked solid. Across the street was a Fairfield Inn, and we got a suite there for pretty cheap, walked across to the casino, and sat down for dinner at Seven Sisters Restaurant. I, at this time, realized the fact that the Sacrament of Marriage outranked the Sacramental Traditions of Lent, and so I had a nice dinner with da elf, including a good bit of roasted lamb, and a baked sweet pota...er... someone stole my sweet potato..... ELF! YOU COME BACK HERE!!!!
Anyway, good dinner. Fat and happy, we headed out to the floor to play $100 and see how much we lost. First step off, we won $400. So much for losing. Our rule is never to play winnings unless we just want $0 for the day, so we walked out with $487.25, and big smiles.
The next morning we awoke to a free continental breakfast with a cook-it-yourself wafflemaker and actually tasty orange juice. Not bad, either.
Drove over the mountain from Cherokee to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to buy taffy (the only reason to go there, that I can see). The mountain had lots of pretty snow, and I got 120MPG in the Hybrid coming down the hill. Going up and down, however, I only got 40.1MPG. Still... sweet!
We came back to Cherokee, and looking for something else to do, called Starbucks 866 number. Asheville was our closest hit, so here we are, in the Biltmore Village, stealing free WiFi and drinking Chai, getting ready for a Japanese Dinner, and are still financially ahead. Dunno where we'll end up tonight, but that's the fun of travelling like this. Back to Atlanta, and work, tomorrow.
Thank you, friends. It's been great!
