When to work?
Apr. 15th, 2004 11:20 amI had a LONG talk with the regional manager type person yesterday, and with my operational manager into the evening. Neither would commit to keeping me on past the retirement of the large servers I manage.
We're moving to Linux, because the massive financial applications are going away with divested companies, and we just don't need big iron here without them. It's a good move for the company, and offers a chance for resume padding, which is always good. Progressive is nice, you know.
One option is to be relegated to the major support role for the Asia/Pacific region, locking me onto 2nd shift for the forseeable future. Not my preference. A second option is to consider APAC/EMEA support, which is 3rd shift. This allows me to see my family, but I would sleep alone for a while. Not my preference, either.
And, to add to this -- I have a potential $15,000 expense coming, and I need to work out how to manage it without impacting debt reduction we already have in the works. Lots of savings, I know, and I have some, but this is going to hurt. I'm somewhat in denial about my finances anyway, so bringing them into stark focus is never fun.
And the lottery ticket didn't work again. ** sigh **
