My birthday sucked.....
Jul. 11th, 2004 10:53 pmMy birthday was rather annoying today.
What? You say I already had one? Nuts to you! I can have as many as I want! And, I get one mid month with da elfwife, as hers is at the other end of July, and as such conflicts with da Firfey's. Since mine is too close to Father's Day, we just move them both towards July 15th a bit, and celebrate a little extra.
elfgirl tried to be nice, and got me tickets to see Reel Big Fish at the Roxy. The Roxy is a great venue, with a balcony, bar, and no smoking.
It does NOT serve food, though. This is important, because local ordinance only allows alcohol sales on Sunday if a significant portion of your revenue comes from food. This makes pubs rather popular. It makes bars rather closed. So, no alcohol. With no alcohol, they decided to open up the show to a more 'family' age group, to fill the place better.
It was like a church social. Lots of 13-17 year old kids wandering around. The balcony was closed because of low ticket sales (which may have come from calling it a family show, honestly), and there were no seats on ground floor. Da elfwife can't stand that long, so we grabbed a wall in the back and sat on the floor.
We could still see the show because the youngsters in front of us were so short.
That's just wrong.
The first group wasn't horrible, but the second one WAS, and the change between sets was in the 20 minute range. With FIVE acts, this meant we'd be losing over an hour to set-and-strike. And, we'd be listening to more crap while waiting on Catch-22 and Reel-Big-Fish.
We left.
$42 for tickets, to what usually is a good venue and a good band, and we never even saw them take the stage. We should have showed up late. I almost suggested it, but didn't think of it again until we were inside. The show is "no in and out" so once outside, we had given up on it. So, I came to work, and the elfwife went home.
Dinner was nice, though. Fado's irish breakfast, curry chips, and icecream in various forms to close out the meal. Plus a beer, a cider, and a little whiskey.
So, the night didn't suck entirely.
In fact, the best part was before we even left the house......
