Last Nights Dream....
Sep. 25th, 2004 03:48 pmMost vivid dream I had last night was as the starboard midships rigger for a doublemasted cargo runner. We were rushing madly towards Barbados for shelter in the harbor of Carlisle Bay in advance of a rapidly developing hurricane. The work to keep the sails trimmed as we rushed for harbor left me worn out as I woke up, even after dragging anchor in the middle of the harbor (away from the docks, to avoid getting smashed on everything), and then loading the belly of the ship with all the tobacco that was going to go bad without a buyer as almost all the other ships were smashed against each other and the docks. There was one remaining, and I lifted several bundles of fermented leaves from that dock into the front hold, until we were about three feet from bilgeline to the water.
I know NOTHING of cutting down sails for storms, or trimming sails to race for harbor. My skill with knots has very little to do with 1.5" hemp rope. I've worked with tobacco, but as raw and not fermented. The smell was... interesting. Amazingly clear, as was the water just away from Bridgetown, as it sloped away to the west. Where I've never been.
.....weird.
