Sirens. Big storm. Adults up, checking weather sites. Second siren (second means seek shelter NOW, warning) so kids and adults on stairs to basement. We lost six breakers in one surge, including the mains. We're currently running via the assistance of the good folk at Earthlink, BellSouth, and APC UPS Batteries. Oh, and Partylite candles, to give the room light.

No noise outside anymore. No rain, really. Just a weird quietness, while we wait on the EMC to find what is left of the local substation and put it back together. Batteries won't last forever, so we'll be on again from someplace else if this goes on too long. Might go to work, as we just put in a really BIG generator!
