While hanov3r and I were enjoying the walk back to our hotel room from the restaurant in Leesburg, a free summer concert was taking place in the town square. I sat down and chanted "Play a cover song" *AND* the musician played a cover of Oasis's Wonderwall.

I was quite pleased, and hanov3r turned to me and said sometimes you scare me.

As of this weekend, we have, in addition to the tomato patch, the cucumber tangle, the asparagus forest, and the rosemary impenetrable-hedge, installed the row of eye-searing doom, aka a line of serrano, tabasco, and habenero peppers along the back wall up to the gate.

It's small, but it's nifty-keen to me. I have salsa in my yard! How cool is that?

We were in a German restaurant and they had an accordian player. They called for requests. My goofus husband held his lit lighter over his head and shouted "Freebird!" and we all rolled our eyes at him.

The fellow on stage played Freebird. On the accordian. Yep.

Huge applause when he finished and we sent the boy up to drop a fiver in the tip stein.

My son communicated. Really communicated. Now that he's hearing, the breakthroughs are coming almost daily. I was in the living room and he was in the kitchen and I heard him pitching a fit - I said "What's the matter, Bubba (his nickname)? He continued fussing and then...silence. Then his frustrated little voice said "help". That became "Mommy, help". I walked over to see that his favorite blanky was shut in the laundry room door. I freed the blanket and hugged the mess out of him. He's communicating!!

It's the little stuff that comes shining through....y'know?

Hmm... Friday night we went out for some very yummy sushi & saw a band play. Spent some time the rest of weekend window shopping for stuff for the new house... and we entertained a couple guests from out of town...

My "Play a cover song" was chanted under my breath to where only myself and hanov3r could hear it. At the Georgia Renaissance Festival several years ago Offutt the Minstrel (Andy Offutt Erwin) asked for requests for him to whistle (he's an outstanding whistler), someone shouted Freebird, and he obliged.

Sunday, I went to a memorial service for a friend that died last week. They don't know exactly when he died but he was last seen last sunday and was found dead in his home on thursday.
Anyway, most of the service involved having the people there take turns remembering Dan and what he meant to them. His family came down from the Mid-west, so it was interesting to meet them.
The thing I found odd was the first speaker - she was some sort of evangelist. Didn't say a thing about Dan, only how we needed to find Jesus. That was odd. At a Jewish service we mostly talk about the deceased and there's a little bit of prayer - almost none, really. The most important part (as I understand it) is the Mourner's Kaddish. It was odd to be preached at (an unusual situation for me anyway, but doubly so at a funeral).
Anyway, that was interesting and not at all what I expected.

I had a wonderful weekend seeing friends I hadn't seen or heard from since last year. Greg and I spent the weekend in Rogersville, TN at the Shakespeare and Friends in the Park Renaissance Festival. We had a lot of fun getting to chat with friends we'd not seen in so long. We're going to make an effort to try to keep in touch this year.

Also, we found out that the Mountain Renaissance Adventure Faire that had been disbanded is being resurrected. We may also get to be a part of that resurrection :)

Hmm.. It's all a blur and other than watching my very first pay per view movie I can't seem to remember anything I did. But that beats nightmares any day... so I guess it counts as goodness.

A guy I've started seeing recently, a situation I sincerely hope becomes something more interesting and serious in the near future, taught me to play a video game on my birthday. He has a weekly radio show about the video game industry. Last night, I and my unexpected lack of suckage at said game got favorably mentioned on the air!

I admit that I have become a fangirl. Took approximately 150 photos at Chris Daughtry's homecoming gig. Now I'm in the process of editing ones that I think will print well once I adjust lighting and crop. (This one I lightened a little too much for printing.) Show was great!!! His band Absent Element is really good. In a sense, the good thing about him not making it to the top 3 meant I got to see him live and up close whereas the AI5 filming for the top 3, I more than likely would have had to miss.


I drive through McLeansville to & from work. I almost went to the first scheduled appearance, but as the shopping center it was held in is tiny, tiny, tiny, I skipped that one although it probably meant that I missed out on some really good photo ops.

The little bit of sunburn was worth it, although I'm probably going to look like I've got dandruff next week when my scalp starts peeling where my hair was parted and got burnt.

Saturday and Sunday I spent the mornings (before the heat becomes intolerable) getting the hedges back into order. By hand of course, I don't own an electric trimmer. One step closer to getting the house ready to sell!

Yesterday after work I was successful in manufacturing the toggles (a process I've been noodling on for some time) to keep the cabinet doors closed in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. You see, Logan, the panther, likes to open doors and walk inside. Which, of course, makes an unholy mess as he knocks over everything inside said cabinet.

On sunday I went down to a pool party and picnic with a bunch of poly folks, about 3 hours away. It was great fun, and I got good photos of the kids racing around the pool.

Other than that, I've gained a new partner. Woooo!

All signs are pointing toward good and wonderful things, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I see him again tomorrow, at his place, for video games with friends (Super Monkey Ball and some Guitar Hero on the PS2.) I'm even cooking dinner... at his request and expense, because he knows I like to cook. :-) He's in charge of dessert. I'm very pleased and more than a little excited at the prospect of tomorrow evening. I hope the day at work doesn't drag.

I still go to Battlefield LAN parties held by some friends, but the FPS revolution has long since passed me by.
