The hard drive is toast. No data can be recovered. It's making the "bad" sound, which means it's not going to play nice at all. *sigh*

Lost lots of family pictures. My projects (due tomorrow, so no pub night today). Various silly and strange things I've gathered over the months. All gone.

My backups are only of certain directories, so I've lost everything else. But, I'll be recovering what I can over the next few days, so I'm back, though slow.

I even got my C++ compiler to install nicely this time, without all the headaches from last time. So, things are looking up.

And, I was paying attention to how I was dealing with all of this, and had a question. Have you ever noticed that you can deal with the good or bad of BIG issues? Something major blows up, and your brain says "Damn, that was big. I'll switch into a more pragmatic mode, or a more capable mode at least, and we'll keep going." I am fine with this, as I can rebuild and keep going. Yes, it's going to be hard, and I've got lots of typing to do, but I can get through it. The big things are too big, I guess, for our brains to wrap around, and so we have some special powers of perserverence when confronted by the massively annoying.

But I was almost destroyed this morning because the doughnut I'd been saving for today is gone, probably eaten by the kidlet who has a habit of stealing them. I had no time to make my morning tea, or have breakfast, so I decided to take food on the run, and the doughnut would be it. But, it was gone. And **THAT** is what set me over the edge today. How stupid is that?
