It was a busy, fussy, and kinda strange weekend....

Let us start with Friday, in which I drove da kidlets up to see the grandparents for the weekend. We rushed about madly to witness da Firfey's acting debut at actor's summer camp, while getting da Munchkin picked up from a science camp in which she built the best trebuchet in the group (nothing like learning siege engines at an early age to make you a well rounded individual!). Da boy was doing his usual, so when everyone was loaded I made a mad dash ahead of into the midst of traffic leaving the city for the weekend. No dinner, just driving. And, then, a quick turnaround so I could meet up with da wife. We had hoped to get with some friends as well, but they couldn't make it, and we ended up more tired than we had expected (what with all that driving and rushing about), but some good shopping and dinner later made it a nice night.

Up early the next morning to clean and straighten, and we had a visit from [livejournal.com profile] melonaise so she could steal away some of da elf's renn/club clothes. Once I color-correct the pictures and get approval, I hope to put one or two up here. After dinner we watched the wrong Lemony Snickett (we thought we'd gotten widescreen, dammit!) for a bit before Melon had to head back to her family. [livejournal.com profile] elfgirl and I finished up with some anise and wormwood, and a good long talk. In fact, I spent most of the weekend talking with SOMEONE, and thus successfully avoided taking down a holly bush, so I feel the weekend was productive in all the right ways. I had hoped to go out dancing too, but MusicMayhem in midtown persuaded the rest of the group to avoid anything inside the perimeter. Ah, well.

Sunday morning we managed to forget (again) about the changed summer schedule for church, so we went out shopping and talking and discussing how much a comforter/ruffle/sham set SHOULD cost, and what goes with burgundy, before heading up to Da Parents for Father's Day. Yes, I know the rest of you celebrate it on the wrong weekend, but that's not my fault. I am on call then, anyway. We rescued my family from my children, and after a nice dinner and giving of gifts, we drove back down through a rather dark but beautiful storm and collapsed. The benefit of an early night was an early morning, and I made it to work with plenty of time to spare.

I believe we dispatch da Munchkin to the left coast for a science experiment (and mini-vacation) and da Firfey to War College (and chess camp) this week. Da boy will continue doing the same old stuff but in a bit more water, and I have to prepare for a test and do some homework. Yay!

For what it's worth, if you guys find a bed set that you really like but that's too expensive, you can often find it on eBay for much less. Especially if it's a big name brand. There are people who shop the outlets just for resale purposes. I recently purchased a Nicole Miller duvet/dust ruffle/2-sham set that is currently retailing for about $400 at Bed Bath & Beyond for $105 including shipping. Anyway, just wanted to suggest it.

Bookstore had a Bulldog chess set - one side is the team in red, the other side in white. More money than I can afford, I'd wager, as I didn't stop to find out the cost.
