so far....
May. 3rd, 2006 12:16 pmHad a nice date with
yin_again last night. She brought me a shiny! And, no matter what you people think, I have it from herself that she's "not that kind of a guy." I'm glad the surgery went well.
The sushi was good, though I still wonder about those berries/fermented cherries/wtfs that we had. Nice, but unexpected.
Potato-salad sushi (that was the texture! Honest!) is weird.
Brain is hurting today. Been in a few meetings already, and more to come.
Sushi tomorrow! Regular meeting, regular place! Post to follow with map link and all...
Lots to think on, when my head stops hurting.
With the exception of a guest visit, and da elf's busy schedule, I've got nothing planned past Mother's Day until Dragon*Con. The summer is sort of hanging out there as a potential, but with no resolution. Oh for the days I used to just drive out of town after school/work on a Friday, with my tent, to camp somewhere until I had to come back. It's been a long time since then. Stupid responsibilities.
Last thought -- I've seen this in a few places, now.... if the big boycott thing on Monday was, as it seems to be, a show of force of the power of our immigrant hispanic community, maybe it is time to return the favor with a show of force of the citizenry, by not going out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Yes, it is rude and politically dangerous, but it would really send a message. And, since we went out for Mexican for St. Patrick's Day (because our pub was charging a cover fee), it might be a perfect time to celebrate Puebla's trouncing of the French by having bangers and mash....

Had a good day. Nice visit from
sumobabe and her boy,
jediclampett, who brought their munchkin to play with ours while we escaped to dinner. Good thing, that. Shared Mythbusters, Theological discussion, bits of fish, and a Nascar rain delay. Now, back to studying about risk analysis for a test tomorrow......

trial by fair
Apr. 25th, 2006 02:16 pmSo.
I had tater-tots today. Got out my bear, and squirted out a nice pool of honey.
Some ran across my plate to where a pickle had once lain, the green blood of its vanquishing an outline of its fate.
I like new and different things, so I thought I'd try the honey/pickle juice mix, on the tines of a fork.
I am now in possession of some knowledge.
That knowledge is that some plates need dividers.
My bear is mostly empty. I need a new one.

what's up?
Apr. 21st, 2006 05:27 pmSo. You're hiking. Or cursing cable modems. Or, hating on wireless cards. Or being scared of bobblehead commercials, embracing caller-id, threatening detonation, discussing placentas, considering roller derby and pubs, allergies, star trek, junk food, tipping, and lots of fan fic.
What are you doing this weekend? Margaritas? Guinness? Sushi? Pizza? Going to the park? To the Square in Marietta on Saturday? Shopping for a prom dress? Watching your kitties? Avoiding getting mauled by bears?
What's a good recipe for greek lasagna?
How many magnets are too many to ingest?
How tall is your stack of cube people?
Who took the last of my Easter candy?
I want to take pics of da elf. Suggestions?

This morning, early, I went in to the inquisitor's dentist's office get two fillings done (one redone, one new). I came out with a temporary crown and a lighter wallet.
When I die, I am going to work backwards through the souls of my lineage and beat them upside the head for having bad teeth. When I reach Noah, I'm going to kick him for not working to get his daughters married to nice dentists. And if I find out that Adam snacked at the Twinkie Tree, he's going to get a belt in the stomach.
Though to be fair, I think this is Cain's fault -- he tried to hide the fact that he wasn't eating his vegetables by making them a sacrifice to God. I bet he didn't brush, either.

So.... I didn't sleep that well last night. Dunno why, but there you have it. When I got up this morning, my sense of vertical was not quite 'on', so I figured I was ready for rush-hour traffic (though I did wait until I could get into the car without injuring myself). Got to work after a bit of fun with the connector, and now want to fall over onto my Dasani bottle (not known for being a great pillow). Boy, I feel odd.
I also feel like someone at LJ is on crack. The 'post this picture' link from the scrapbook now forces you to use a rich-text editor, and my html gets wonky. Damned annoying.
Gotta remember to hide eggs for kids tonight. Lots of fun to be had by all, right?
Will post the events of the weekend, from the joy of trying to get the kids AND THEIR CLOTHES to the grands for the weekend, to sleeping in too late, to almost forgetting to get a gift for a dear lady, to ritual burning of tree parts, and ending up with bunny bukkake. It's a better story than my brain can make of it. If you are lucky, or persistent, you can bug da
elfgirl to put up the pic of her in her cool Renn garb!

The Melting Pot (literally)
Apr. 17th, 2006 12:25 pmWe enjoyed our dinner, and da elf took a couple of pics. I thought you'd like to see how we tortured our peeps in a pot of white chocolate with melted butterfingers. Nummy!
Thanks again to Melonaise and her Boy for our gift card that we (eventually!) used for a nice night out!
yesterday.....
Apr. 10th, 2006 10:03 amyesterday was an interesting day.
We got up for early Palm Sunday service instead of the main one, as we had guests coming. And, since we got up early, we arrived slightly late. But, we were all dressed (da boy in his cute outfit, da girl in her pretty dress, and me and da elf in all black "for Lent", which we apparently celebrate all year. We're the good penitents, we are...). After we sang the good hymns and the homily was over, we paused for the Peace, at which time da Firfey said, loudly, "It's Over? Already?" She got to stand up at the altar as they did the eucharistic prayers, which was fun for her and the other kids who were constantly looking for family and waving during the solemn bits.
After service we went to the grocery store to get milk. Apparently $180 worth of milk. I think other groceries were in the basket, too, but as we were there to get milk, I can't say. Lots of milk, I'm sure, is important to our house.
We ran into "W" from GoodEats while there, too. She's got a cute kid, and her husband drives the same minivan that we do. We tried not to be too fanboyish, so didn't rush up and gush or anything. Just smiled across the aisle, and went on to getting the milk and whatever else we got to support it in our house.
We started putting things away when we got home (milk into the fridge) and found ants had discovered a way through the seal at the top of my container of Hawaiian honey, so it went away, and we began the war of caulked aggression for the next few hours. Things were removed from cabinets, sorted, tossed, or replaced in better combinations, as we continued to crush ants and caulk new openings. Fun!
Then our guests arrived.
sumobabe and her kidlet came over for a playdate, and the firfey and friend ran around together, making da boy a little fussy for being left out a lot. Eventually da Munchkin got home, and we did a trial run of babysitting while the adults went out for sushi. Good stuff, and the kids seemed to warm up to each other. I think it was a good thing.
Then, all too soon, our guests departed for home. The kids did bathtime, da elf assembled some shelves and hung them on her closet wall, and we watched a PBS special on visiting England and Wales. When it got to da Munchkin's bedtime, we all went up to get rest ahead of an early return to school.
And I still don't know how well I did on my paper. Piffle.

Helping
elfgirl install ClosetMaid shelftrack shoe box in her walk-in closet.
Had to drill anchor holes into exterior wall, into the insulation barrier.
Fiberglass, meet eye. Eye, meet fiberglass. Eyedrops, you're also invited.
Now I look like I have pinkeye, and I do *NOT* want a worchestershire sauce transfusion, thankyouverymuch.

....THAT was interesting.
Sirens. Big storm. Adults up, checking weather sites. Second siren (second means seek shelter NOW, warning) so kids and adults on stairs to basement. We lost six breakers in one surge, including the mains. We're currently running via the assistance of the good folk at Earthlink, BellSouth, and APC UPS Batteries. Oh, and Partylite candles, to give the room light.
No noise outside anymore. No rain, really. Just a weird quietness, while we wait on the EMC to find what is left of the local substation and put it back together. Batteries won't last forever, so we'll be on again from someplace else if this goes on too long. Might go to work, as we just put in a really BIG generator!
So, we're all fine, here, now. How are you?

Sushi was wonderful, as always. Next time we may do the chef's choice again, as I love the presentation as much as the food.
I ended up buying for everyone, because I was in a good mood, and I had three hot women to talk to all night. Can't beat that!
But, for having bought them dinner, did any of them offer me sex? Well, yes. Even so, da elf and I needed to go home and rescue da munchkin from watching the kids, so I had to put it off for a while. I did get a few good kisses, and one really deep dip.
There was much talking about writing, and I think everyone was adequately entertained.
Next time? First Thursday of May, the 4th! Keep it on your calendar!
(and, of course, I'm willing to go before then if someone REALLY wants to....)

Well, fudge.
Apr. 4th, 2006 10:10 amApparently we received a box yesterday from
melonaise that contained a plate with small amounts of fudge adhered to it. I say this because when I checked this morning, I found a plate just like that. I presume there was actual fudge. I also found a bit of aluminum foil in the fridge surrounding an unmarked block.
It's Spring Break week. The kids are home all day.
Must get home early. Must get home early.
(I did try some. Good stuff!)

end of a weekend....
Apr. 3rd, 2006 08:31 amPaper quasi-finished (doing final proof and some mods now).
Da elf was very patient, didn't prank me on the 1st, and still managed to sneak away with her friends Saturday night for a girls-night out.
Watched too much NASCAR again with da firfey, who HATES JEFF GORDON AIIIGH. Apparently.
Storms this morning were noisy but otherwise uneventful for us.
Spring break has made my morning commute kinda nice, but I suspect that the workday will make up for it with half the office away on holiday. Joy. At least I have something to do to take my mind off of weird issues when they arise!

I have provided a new system of evaluation, defended it with a review of older systems and detailed their shortcomings, and provided a means to extend the evaluation against multiple genres of interest. I have written 25 pages. I am finally ready to analyze software under my system, to provide closure to this class.
I have now re-read my requirements document, to make sure I have it covered. I have not really read this since October of last year.
It says:
Upon completion of the course the student will have generated annotated reviews of several programs, with a final short (3-6 page) survey paper and annotated bibliography as a review of existing approaches.
I am an idiot.
Time to annotate my paper's bibliography, and pretend that I have no idea how to do a 3-6 page paper. "3-6? I tried to write -3 pages, but....."
