Drought....
Nov. 24th, 2007 11:49 pmA drought in the Georgia Mountains has significant impact in all directions.
A weird thing to many of us in Atlanta is the fact that Allatoona, a flood control lake that feeds water into Cobb County, doesn't drain into the Chattahoochee. No, it flows via the Etowah river somewhat northwest, and fills Alabama's Weiss Lake, and the Coosa river basin. The water then runs south into the Alabama River, and out into the Gulf of Mexico at Mobile. The left picture above is of Weiss lake. Can you see it? No? This field formed because Weiss is a bit low for the season. Lake Neely Henry is also down, and Lake Logan Martin (near Pell City, it's the big lake between Birmingham and Oxford on I-20) is similarly showing significantly low levels. The picture on the right shows grasslands behind the existing lake level, where it previously was just water.
It's weird where a drought reaches, isn't it?
