Sen. Ted Kennedy has died. It's the end of an era.

So, this is the last Wednesday of the Bush Administration.

A great story from the Christian Science Monitor....

...it's about canvassing for the election....

...it's probably not what you expect.

My wife made me canvass for Obama; here's what I learned

For those of you tossing out Supreme Court decisions willy-nilly, you might want to pay attention:

ABC News' Ariane de Vogue Reports: In an interview with CBS's Katie Couric on "The Evening News" Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could not cite a Supreme Court decision she thinks was wrongly decided besides Roe v. Wade. (emphasis mine)

So... it isn't that Palin can't name SCOTUS decisions. It's that she had to name one she felt was wrongly decided, that is currently in force, and that impacts her worldview significantly enough to be remembered.

Now.... can *YOU* name one that meets those criterion?

Without resorting to Google, mind you....

USGS and others report massive earthquakes in Iran , China, Indonesia, and the Mid Atlantic Ridge, varying from 5.0 to 6.4. Many villages destroyed, some deaths, and injuries reported.

In completely unrelated news, CERN's Large Hadron Collider was switched on yesterday, and the first proton circuit test was completed this morning.

Are you underrepresented? Let someone know! Consider joining [livejournal.com profile] userdom_counts so our advocate (who has gone silent in general, except to bash people who want their voices heard) can be informed.

------[profile information follows]-------
Livejournal has over 13 million journals created.

How many of those journals belong to members who would like to hear something from their elected User Representative, in their official capacity?

Let's find out.

At the moment there is no posting access here; this is only a head count. All you have to do is join, and you will be counted.

Please note: This community in no way endorses any hostile action towards the current User Representative. The intention is not to harass, just to find out how many would like to hear from that representative. This is singularly about their actions as User Representative and in no way intended as any form of commentary on any other aspect of them.

The User Representative will, upon either contacting the moderator or joining the group, be granted full, unedited, unmolested, and total posting access to this group.

Seriously - we just want to hear from them in their official capacity.

(and posting up multiple "please contact us" messages on forums they use will be counted as spam by lj_abuse so save them the hassle by not doing it)

Imagine taking pictures on a trip, only to find that every one of them has a product image imbedded that wasn't there when you framed the shot...

Imagine taking a photograph of a loved one, only to find out later that there was invisible grafitti over their head indicating their parents were never married, and might not have been the same species...

Imagine the headache of having to carefully scrub pictures with PhotoShop or other tools to remove millions of bad pixels strangely arranged in images or words...

It could happen to you.

Just got the news that UGA VI, the mascot for The University of Georgia, died last night.

Today, someone has been killed at Six Flags over Georgia.

I think I'll stay at home. Unless this next storm comes along and knocks over a tree on my house!

[livejournal.com profile] elfgirl calls this "Epic Fail".

Apparently the International Astronomers Union decided to solve the problem of what to call Pluto by naming it a plutoid. A plutoid is basically "something out where pluto is that looks like pluto and not the nearby rocks."
